Hi all

I had a fab day at a lovely spa yesterday with Richard for his birthday treat.

it has a hydrotherapy area (lush) with good access etc.

So lovely to be in water again!

Anyway- what I did notice is how very bad this left leg has got. It just wont move. I struggle to get the heel down at all- even in the water. the muscles are like rocks and so very tight holding it bent all the time.

I said to Richard "Its no good love, I am going to need this surgery"

I wondered if this is something that has happened to you over something when you realise actually its no good and you will have to face the next thing sooner rather than later?

I also had a treatment there but Im afraid it will be my last ever, they were very nice and good but I just cannot turn myself. *sigh* oh well. it was nice!

not sure if that makes any sense!!

Jenni xx

PS SENspa in brockenhurst- lovely day for a real treat.

Hello Jenni,

So sorry that what looked like a great day (hydro etc.) has now made you realise that you need another
operation. It never rains but it pours. . Sorry the treatment whilst being great at the time, has left you
feeling rough today. Hugs to you .

Hmmm...turning over on therapy tables is not my thing either - in fact I can't even get on 'em anymore. Sad the leg is so bad BUT on the plus side we have a pair of legs between us (a bit ropey maybe, but a pair nevertheless) - thank goodness my useless leg is the right, or we would have been well and truly scuppered!

Any idea when they are likely to be able to see you and arrange it all?

MUCH love xxxx

I am glad you had a good time at the spa but sorry it made you realise how bad your leg has become.

I know how you feel. I so did not want a total knee replacement in January at the age of 48 but as my lovely Orthopaedic Consultant pointed out "fannying around is not going to get you anywhere and things are not going to improve" He was right of course but it does take a tad of courage to move forward with our treatment, especially as we have family lives to take into consideration. My recovery has been very slow and has been impeded far more than we anticipated by the RA, BUT, there is no pain and that is worth it's weight in gold. I don't think I will ever get back my full mobility but I am coping with a walking stick and taking the stairs one at a time even after eight months.

I think you need to think about you in this Jenni. You are young and any quality of life that you can gain back by having surgery is worth it in my book.

I went for a spa break a couple of weeks ago. I had an hour long facial. After I had hoisted myself on the table, she put about 100 different preparations on my face and then said "I just want you to relax and I will be back in 5 minutes". So I lay there in my knickers and bra with cucumber over my eyes supposedly relaxing to piped music in the background. Unfortunately my mind started to wonder. What if the fire alarm went off? Would I be able to get off the bed, dressed and hobble outside before my eyebrows started to singe? I lay there, and lay there, I started to get colder and colder, five minutes turned in to what seemed like hours. I expect she was only gone for just over 10 minutes but it seemed like forever. She breezed in apologising for how long she had taken. She then finished off my facial and then said "you can get dressed now and meet me outside" and promptly left again. Ha!! How the hell was I supposed to get off the table from an almost horizontal position where I had been lain for over an hour? Well I am sure it was very comical to anyone watching but not from my side. I was nearly in tears when I finally managed to get off. Then I had to get dressed. I was just walking towards the door when "she" came in again and said "I just thought I would check you are alright" If only she knew. I had told her at the beginning about my RA but like other non-RA people they have no idea.

Oh Jackie - I shouldn't chuckle but I think we have all been there! Any treatment I have now, from a facial to eyebrow wax is done from the comfort of my wheelchair. Not wonderful, I know, but it does save all the heaving and shoving afterwards. Take care xx

Oh Jackie, what a palaver!

I'm sure we all sympathise with getting up from the horizontal !( or not! )

Hi Jenni

Spas are wonderful treats. We are off to Tunisia in October and the hotel we always stay in as a Thalasso Spa - wonderful !!

I have the same problem getting on and off tables after a treatment - but that is because I am only 5ft 2; luckily most have a portable step.

Just out of nterest which Spa did you go to? It might be something I might consider for my parents.

Oh Jackie! What a pickle!

I felt like a beached whale, lumping about on the table... I thought my goodness what would I have done this time last yr when I weighed nearly 3 stone more! I nearly fell off once- the boobs went one way and I went the other- the therapist nearly had a heart attack!

I do think that the hydro pool was lovely though.

I have just bought 2 new swimsuits in a SIZE 20! I realise this is still Ma hoo sive but is a lot smaller than the 26 I was last yr.

The hotel we are going to in a wk or so has a spa, I think I will be taking up residence reading my book by the pool!

Jenni

I wanted to go in the pool but we ran out of time. We are the same size (20), nice and cuddly. BigGrin

Pre-RA days I managed to get down to 10 stone by jumping up and down like a lunatic to keep fit DVD's and just got into some good jeans and then I became ill and was diagnosed with RA. I sometimes wonder if all the jumping up and down with Davina woke the RA up (I know she is not everyone's cup of tea but I did not think could cause long-term chronic diseases!)

I much prefer sitting by a pool with a good book anywayBigGrin
